Our Story

The only backup power site that works for homeowners, not brands

BackupPowerSource.com exists because we couldn’t find a trustworthy, independent guide to portable power stations when we needed one. So we built it.

Why We Built This Site

In 2023, after a 4-day power outage following a winter storm, our founder spent a weekend trying to figure out which portable power station was actually worth buying. What he found was frustrating: Wirecutter had one generic roundup, brand blogs only recommended their own products, and the YouTube landscape was dominated by paid promotions.

Nobody had built a dedicated, honest resource for the people who need backup power most — remote workers whose income depends on uptime, CPAP users whose health depends on overnight power, families in storm zones who face this problem every year.

BackupPowerSource.com is that resource. We write every guide as if we’re advising a friend — not writing for SEO, not pushing the product with the highest commission, not copying spec sheets. Real research, honest opinions, practical advice.

“Our mission is simple: help ordinary homeowners make confident backup power decisions without needing an engineering degree or a $5,000 budget.”

What We Cover

We focus exclusively on portable power stations and home backup power — the intersection of portable battery technology, home preparedness, and practical everyday use. That means:

  • In-depth reviews and head-to-head comparisons of EcoFlow, Jackery, Bluetti, Anker SOLIX, and others
  • Use-case guides for specific scenarios — CPAP backup, home office uptime, hurricane prep, sump pump coverage
  • Educational content explaining the technical concepts (watt-hours, LFP vs NMC, inverter types, UPS mode) in plain English
  • Sizing calculators and real-world runtime data so you can match a unit to your actual needs
  • Quarterly updates as the market evolves — because new models launch every 3–6 months

Our Values

🔌
Real testing over spec sheets
We test with actual loads — fridges, CPAP machines, laptops, routers — not hypothetical calculations.
🚫
Editorial independence
No brand pays us to rank their product. We recommend what we’d buy ourselves, regardless of commission.
📖
Plain English always
We explain every technical term the first time it appears. This site is for homeowners, not electrical engineers.
🔄
Honest updates
We update our guides quarterly. If a product we recommended is no longer the best choice, we say so.

How We Make Money

We are transparent about our revenue model because we believe you deserve to know how any site you rely on earns money.

BackupPowerSource.com earns revenue through three sources:

  • Affiliate commissions — when you click a product link and make a purchase, we earn a small commission from the retailer at no cost to you. Our full Affiliate Disclosure lists every partner and rate.
  • Display advertising — we display ads through Google AdSense and potentially other networks. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial content.
  • Digital products — we sell practical planning resources such as the Home Power Backup Planner. These are created independently and don’t influence our recommendations.

None of these revenue sources change what we recommend. We have recommended products from brands we don’t have affiliate deals with. We have given honest critical reviews of products from brands we do have affiliate deals with. That will never change.
